Warning From A Vampire – Entry 23 (Epilogue)

What if the US Central Intelligence Agency and The Vatican knew there was secret advanced technology from an alien civilization in Iraq before the United States invaded it? What if the invasion and its “Weapons of Mass Destruction” excuse was a ruse? What if this technology is needed to save the Earth? What if our planet has barely twenty-five years left before mankind has to face an ancient race of awesome and terrible power?

EPILOGUE

MONESTERY OF SAINT DIONYSIOS THE HOLY AREOPAGITE

SAINT DENNIS VILLAGE, LONG ISLAND, NEW YORK

It’s a beautiful Sunday morning. The sun is blazing and Northeast Long Island is verdant green everywhere. I’ve once again swiped Hack’s Porsche to get us to a church – this time a Russian Orthodox Monestery in Long Island where Katrina and I are to attend Divine Liturgy. Orthodox don’t call it “Sunday Mass” – but it’s the same concept. It’s a small, wooden church that looks by no means flush with funds – but its stained glass windows are gorgeous and it has that Orthodox “feel” about it. It’s God’s house – for people of faith. Simple and unpretentious.

Katrina’s looking beautiful, as usual, in a stunning black suit and deep crimson blouse. She’s got couture half-boots on and a traditional head covering, something expected of women in an Orthodox service. I’m wearing a business suit and tie. In my suit pocket is a substantial donation for the struggling little church because, well…..it needs it.

A full-bearded Father Theodor waits at the church front doors, greeting a surprising number of faithful who will attend services today. His flock is growing. He looks in our direction and smiles. The sight of two people holding hands on their way to church obviously pleases him. We’re recent members. He’s a direct man with a healthy sense of humor and appreciation for souls who keep pushing towards God’s light. He’s inspirational and believeable – but realistic. He knows people are flawed. And that there are things in the world that can’t be easily explained.

As we walk up the gravel pathway to greet Father Theodor, Katrina stops and looks at me.

“What’s going to happen, Jon?” She says, suddenly looking worried.

It’s one of those moments that you remember in a relationship.

“I don’t know.” I say. “But whatever does happen, I’ll be right there by your side. I love you, Katrina.”

She just smiles and says “I love you, too, Jon Croft.”
